Was in Chicago last weekend and went on one of those crazy speedboat adventure thingies in Lake Michigan. Which was fun but needed way more 360s to be worth it.

College Days

It’s almost 1am on a weeknight and that’s late as hell. I remember just a couple years ago, when 1am was nothing. If I went to sleep at 1, I was sleeping early. Man, sometimes I miss college. Or my post-college college, rdubs. lol. Even back in those days, we stayed up, engaged in shenanigans till the wee hours of the morning, and stumbled into work the next (or later that same) morning, still getting through a whole day’s work.

How the hell did I do it?

I’m looking at the clock right now, willing myself to sleep cuz, hell, I am gonna be one tired ass little girl tomorrow, but alas, I can’t sleep. Sigh.

Good ol’ college, when I stayed up till 2-3-4, chatting, reading, chillin’, didn’t have classes till 10am or later. Bummed out, studied (barely), chilled some more. Shopped, read. Ah well. That’s my wistful post of the moment. Time to try to sleep yet again.

Year in Review | 2008

[I was supposed to post this in 2008 - I guess I'm a year late... HAHAHAHA. I enjoied that too much. ]

I’ve done the monthly format of this for 2 years now and I guess that was that. There was WAY TOO MUCH that happened this year that I can’t possibly remember so doing the monthly format is just… too much. Not to mention, I’m too damn lazy. Although it would be cool to read back at the end of next year… Eh.

Would it be too cliché to say this year was a year of new beginnings? I guess it would. Not to mention there were really only 2: new job and new husband. Hahaha – well, first and only husband, of my first and only marriage. You know what I mean.

So of course, the biggest item of the year was my marriage (aka impending doom as I lovingly called it prior to it actually happening) to the love of my life. Good ol’ Hubz. The 6 months prior to the actual day were full of insanity and drama – what desi wedding – or hell, what wedding in general isn’t?! Here is a summation of my thoughts on the whole process. Though I must say the photos and such came out not bad.

Prior to the wedding the crazy hubz-to-be was all, you have so much money saved up, you should go spend it all! And I was all O_O – the crazy loon! Though I did end up spending a tiny portion of it on some funfun photography stuffs! My best acquistion around that time was the Nikkor 18-200mm lens, which ran me a cool $600 or so. That thing is so freakin’ versatile that combined with my 105mm, I haven’t had the urge to buy a new lens yet! In the past year, I also got myself a tripod (got it in May, used it for the first time last week…), a Lensbaby 3G (also used in the past month or two), and, most recently, the SB-400. That was also another definite “worth it” purchase.

After the wedding drama, we finally had 2 weeks to relax in Costa Rica!! Since 7th grade my dream was to visit this country and it finally happened! Amazing. I have a lot of more photos to post but amazingly I bet there are a lot more shots I could have taken there that I didn’t. I guess sometimes you just have to put the camera down… (Blasphemy!)

Overall I think I really worked my photography this year, and got many opportunities to explore different kinds of subjects (a lot of them thanks to the ol’ Hubz ) I’m pretty happy with where I’m at, though I’ve got a ways to go. I don’t have a goal in mind, other than to keep capturing stuff I love. (And if other people love it too, yay!) Actually a partial goal is to cover my house (tastefully) in my work. Oh and another goal for 2009 is to sell some of it as well. I’ve gotten into it recently and while I haven’t sold anything yet, I’m working on a couple of different things for the year ahead. We’ll see how it goes. There is definitely a feeling of pride when someone compliments something I’ve done and it would be even more fun to have them want to *buy* it. And hey, the money wouldn’t hurt either. I’ve also done a workshop and plan to do a couple more things in the coming year as well. I finally want to take an actual class to learn my camera and its features better. People say I’ve got a good eye for capturing but learning to use the camera better wouldn’t hurt.

Of course, the other major event of this year was the new job. I moved completely out of SAP training/change management consulting into market research. And of the Internets! What a suitable field! Of course, the distractions are rather insane as well. (Considering I have access to practically any site ever at work… *whistles*) After a bit of drama in the middle of the year (sigh, always with the drama), right now, I think I’m at a good place. I moved industries from Tech (technical tech, not fun tech) to Consumer Products, which I’m enjoying much more. At least for now.

Oh man so much more has happened this year. Let’s see, went to India, came back with stuffz; there was a mouse in the house; I did craploads of stuff for the wedding; I went to Puerto Rico for my bachelorette party; went to a ballooning festival, something I’d been wanting to do for a long time; Hubz’ sister moved to Australia (okie, that’s not me per se but it’s AWESOME); hmm, OH and shot a small concert for a friend!

Hmm, for 2009, I have a lot of photography-related goals, as mentioned above. We are possibly house hunting as well, so saving money overall is a huge goal for us, considering we’re not good at that at all. Well, we could be much better. Hmm… Also, ride my bike more often.

Onwards!

So it’s 5:20 in the morning on a Sunday in late September. Do people actually function at this hour? Ugh.

I’m up to go shoot some photos and it better be worth it! I missed the opportunity yesterday due to some horrendous nonsense, which is why I’m sacrificing my sleep (and hopefully not my judgment) for this. If it is worth it, I’ll be back to post some pics.
